The Lehigh Valley Railroad arrived in Schuyler County in the early 1890s when the tracks were built along the east side of Seneca lake. Several large culverts were built to carry the railroad over some of the deep ravines along the lake and there is one right in the village of Odessa. The Lehigh Valley Railroad changed the villages it passed through as it brought passenger service, milk transport, and other services to improve the lives of the people along the tracks in Odessa, Burdett, and Hector.
